A Single Case of Art Therapy for Child with Cerebral Palsy: Exploring Anecdotal Record Focusing on Fine Motor Function
Kim Do-Hee

Abstract
This study aims to provide clinical evidence for treatment and research by exploring the anecdotal records on a single case of art therapy for a child with cerebral palsy. It focused on a 13-year old boy registered as brain lesion. 17 sessions of art therapy were applied to him, once per week with each session running 90 minutes. At each session, anecdotes records were collected and results of the art work were photographed. The data were analyzed by an iterative method of reading collected anecdotes repeatedly and collecting and linking similar contents. The results of this study are as follows. The child's fine motor function showed that he could not do the delicate work such as connecting the end and the end of image or object. he was intended to use only dominant hands, and unable to control the amount and size of the medium of art. And the movements of the fingers, wrists and arms were excessively large or unstable. But, as sessions proceeded, the boy began to move his arms left and right, up and down, use both hands at the same time, and move wrists and fingers with more precision voluntarily. His ability in art activities improved such as collage, folding, coloring, drawing, and cutting out. Based on these results, we discussed art therapy strategies and methods that helped to bring about change and discussed suggestions for follow-up research.
